Penyebab

Ketumbit adalah disebabkan oleh kelenjar minyak yang terletak berhampiran dengan kelopak mata menjadi tersumbat. Kelenjar minyak yang telah tersumbat ini kebiasaannya akan dijangkiti oleh bakteria seperti bakteria Staphylococcus aureus. Penghasilan atau pengumpulan minyak yang berlebihan menyediakan keadaan yang sesuai untuk pembiakan bakteria. Antara faktor-faktor yang boleh menyebabkan kelenjar minyak tersumbat ialah :

* Tekanan
* Pertukaran hormon (mungkin juge)
* Mengguna peralatan solek yang sama buat satu jangka masa yang lama atau yang telah dijangkiti oleh bacteria
* Diabetis
* Kandungan lemak yang tinggi dalam badan (ni mmg sah2 dah)
* Kekurangan vitamin dalam badan

Simptom-simptom

* Bisul di bahagian atas atau bawah kelopak mata
* Bengkak di sekeliling kelopak mata
* Sakit
* Kelopak mata menjadi merah
* Kelopak mata terasa sakit apabila disentuh
* Mata menjadi pedih
* Mata berair
* Gatal-gatal di kawasan bisul
* Pesakit berasa tidak selesa semasa mengelipkan mata
